MHI Delivers Testing Equipment for Safety Demonstration of Nuclear Fusion Blankets for ITER in Southern France
TOKYO, Jul 6, 2022 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has completed delivery of testing equipment to the Rokkasho Fusion Institute in Aomori Prefecture, part of Japan's National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology (QST), to confirm and demonstrate the safety of the "blanket," a core component of a nuclear fusion reactor. The blanket system being developed at this research center will be used as Japan's Test Blanket Module (TBM) for the ITER-TBM project, the world's first test of blanket systems in an actual reactor environment, at ITER(1), the experimental fusion reactor currently under construction in southern France. Following the delivery of testing equipment, MHI has strong intention to contribute to the development of a blanket system for the ITER-TBM project through providing other systems/components such as TBMs.The testing equipment supplied by MHI comprises four systems, the High Heat Flux Test Equipment, In Box Water Eruption Test Equipment, Be-Water Reaction Test Equipment, and Flow Assisted Corrosion Test Loop. These testing systems will be used for various experiments aimed at developing a blanket system for the ITER-TBM project, and to confirm its safety. The blanket is one of the components that comprises the inner wall of the fusion reactor. It is a critical component that extracts the heat generated by the reactor, as well as provides for breeding and self-sustainment(2) of tritium, which is used as fuel.ITER is an international megaproject to demonstrate, both scientifically and technologically, the feasibility of fusion energy. ITER-TBM is a project to conduct functional demonstration testing of different TBM systems, each developed independently by four of the seven participating parties (Japan, the EU, the U.S., Russia, South Korea, China, and India). Because the results from this project will influence the relative merits of blanket systems for commercial reactors in the future, each country is actively developing TBMs with demonstrated functionality and safety. In Japan, QST, as the domestic agency for the ITER Project, is leading the development of the country's blanket system.MHI was previously awarded contracts from QST for manufacture of core components for ITER, including five (of a total of 19) toroidal field (TF) coils(3), four of which have been shipped, and six units of the divertor outer vertical targets(4), which are currently being manufactured. MHI will continue to actively support the ITER project to develop this technology, which will be vital to the stable development of the world, and contribute to the realization of fusion energy.(1) Fusion is the energy source that enables the sun to keep shining. The ultimate goal is achieving fusion on Earth. Fusion reactions fuse light atomic nuclei (deuterium and tritium) in a plasma environment into the heavier element of helium. Fusion reactions emit zero carbon dioxide, and their source of fuel can be extracted from seawater in virtually unlimited quantities (lithium from which tritium is derived, and deuterium). Fusion energy is expected to provide fundamental solutions to many of the world's energy and environmental problems.(2) Fusion reactors use deuterium and tritium as fuel. Neutron irradiation of a lithium compound in the blanket is used to produce and supplement the tritium that is consumed in the reaction process (self-sustainment).(3) For details on the TF coils for ITER that QST ordered from MHI, see the following press release. www.mhi.com/news/210524.html4For details on the divertor outer vertical targets for ITER that QST ordered from MHI, see the following press release. www.mhi.com/news/211213.htmlAbout MHI GroupMitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group is one of the world's leading industrial groups, spanning energy, smart infrastructure, industrial machinery, aerospace and defense. Fujitsu Develops New Technology for Accurately Estimating Postures of the Human Body from Point Cloud Data Using Millimeter-wave Sensor
TOKYO, Jul 6, 2022 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - Fujitsu has successfully developed a new technology to accurately estimate postures of the human body from coarse-grained point cloud data obtained with a conventional millimeter-wave sensor. Fujitsu plans to deploy the newly developed technology at hospitals and nursing care facilities to support nurses and caregivers in visually monitoring patients and reacting to emergency situations such as falls of patients.Figure: Overview of the newly developed technologyThe technology leverages an AI model for highly accurate estimations of postures of the human body and Fujitsu's "Actlyzer"(1) AI technology for analysis of complex human behaviors to analyze the movement of patients in detail before and after a fall without installing cameras in highly private spaces such as hospitals and nursing homes.Fujitsu will conduct field trials with hospitals and nursing care facilities to verify the effectiveness and improve the accuracy of the new technology with the aim to offer it as a service to the Japanese market by the end of FY 2023.Innovation to improve independence and safety for the elderly and those with impaired mobilitySecuring the safety of patients and elderly people while reducing the workload of nurses and caregivers represents an increasingly urgent task at hospitals and nursing homes. While monitoring technology using sensors has been attracting attention in recent years, the demand for solutions using millimeter wave sensors is expected to grow as it can be deployed at low cost and also helps preserve the privacy of patients. However, low-priced millimeter-wave sensors, which are widely available, provide only coarse-grained point cloud data and are thus often not accurate enough to detect falls of patients and the elderly and to perform detailed analysis of their behavior before and after falls. To address this issue, Fujitsu has developed a technology that enables expansion from coarse-grained point cloud data to fine-grained point cloud data necessary for an accurate posture estimation by fusing time series information of point cloud data in a series of movements of the human body. The new technology that does not utilize cameras will help to support nurses and caregivers to monitor patients and achieve a faster response to emergency situations while ensuring patients' privacy.About the newly developed technologyFujitsu has developed a new technology that enables a detailed analysis of human behavior using a common 79 GHz millimeter-wave sensor compliant with the Radio Law of Japan. In February 2022, Tottori City (Tottori Prefecture, Japan) and Fujitsu Japan Co., Ltd.(2), conducted field trials with elderly people living alone in municipal housing units using a prototype of the newly developed technology and confirmed the effectiveness of the technology in privacy-conscious monitoring of the residents. In June 2022, Fujitsu and Kawasaki City (Kanagawa prefecture, Japan) conducted trials at the simulation laboratory "Kawasaki Welfare Technology Lab" ("Weltech", a facility to support the development and improvement of welfare products and services), to test the response of the prototype of the new technology and notifications sent by the system in various behavior situations such as elderly people getting out of bed. Based on the results of these tests, Fujitsu and members of Weltech plan to conduct field trials of the prototype at an actual facility for the elderly from August 2022 onwards.Features of the new technology:1. Point group data extension technology for generating input data suitable for measurements of postures of the human bodyDevelopment of a point cloud data extension technology that can be extended to fine-grained point cloud data by selecting point cloud data suitable for the estimation of postures from a large amount of point cloud data that can be acquired by multiple radio waves(3)2. Large-scale dataset and AI model to measure postures of the human bodyConstruction of a large-scale data set that combines point cloud data with three dimensional coordinates of human joints based on point cloud data extended to sufficient granularity to estimate the position of the human body to achieve estimations with higher accuracyDevelopment of an AI model for highly accurate estimations of the position of the human body based on a dataset consisting of behavioral data from about 140 people in about 50 different scenes3. Actlyzer AI technology for complex and detailed analysis of human behaviorDetailed analysis of various human behaviors (falling after standing up from bed or during walking as well as behavior before and after falling etc.) through utilizing Actlyzer, an AI technology able to analyze complex human behavior by combining approximately 100 types of basic movement data to support nurses and caregivers in visually monitoring patients and achieving a faster response time to emergency situations(1) Behavior analytics technology Actlyzer: technology commercialized as Fujitsu's AI technology for video-based behavioral analysis solution "FUJITSU Technical Computing Solution GREENAGES Citywide Surveillance" to recognize human actions.(2) Fujitsu Japan Co., Ltd. : Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; COO and Representative Director of the Board: Takayuki Sunada.(3) Postures of the human body can be expressed as time-series point cloud data as even a general millimeter-wave sensor with a coarse granularity of point cloud data that can be acquired by radio wave irradiation at one time can achieve highly accurate estimation. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015 represent a set of common goals to be achieved worldwide by 2030. Fujitsu?s purpose -- "to make the world more sustainable by building trust in society through innovation" -- is a promise to contribute to the vision of a better future empowered by the SDGs. Mitsubishi Power Receives Serial Contracts from Taiwan Power for Large-Scale Modification of GTCC at the Datan Power Plant
TOKYO, Jul 5, 2022 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - Mitsubishi Power, a power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), has received a series of contracts from Taiwan's state-owned Taiwan Power Company (TPC) for a large-scale renovation project of power generation equipment at the Datan Power Plant in the city of Taoyuan, on the outskirts of the capital city of Taipei. The contract covers a total of four unit of gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plant (Unit 3 to Unit 6), comprising a total of eight gas turbines. The aim of the renovation project is to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxide (NOx) while maintaining generating capacity, allowing the plant to comply with increasingly tight environmental regulations, as well as to enhance operating flexibility by improving the operations and maintenance (O&M). Completion is scheduled for 2025.Datan Power PlantThe Datan Power Plant is a natural gas fired GTCC power plant located approximately 50km west of Taipei. It has a total of 20 gas turbines (including Units 8 and 9, currently under construction), and is one of the largest natural gas-fired power plants in Taiwan. Once all facilities are completed and operational, the plant will have a total combined output of approximately 7,000 megawatts (MW). Mitsubishi Power has supplied 14 of these gas turbines, for units 1-6. The six turbines for units 1-2 are M501F models, and the remaining eight are M501G models. This project covers the M501G models, with work conducted on each unit in succession. To reduce NOx emissions, the current combustors will be replaced with an air-cooled, premix combustors (systems in which fuel and air are mixed in advance), which lowers the local combustion temperature and curbs NOx generation, decreasing NOx emissions by around 60%. At the same time, Mitsubishi Power will utilize gas turbine components with proven, cutting-edge technology, along with the TOMONI suite of intelligent solution services, to maintain high generating capacity and operational flexibility. In addition, Mitsubishi Power will provide a full turnkey solution, handling the design, manufacture, installation, and testing of the auxiliary machinery.Taiwan continues to face a tight supply and demand situation for electric power, with producers unable to keep up with robust demand. The country needs to increase its capacity margin, which indicates the degree of surplus capacity, in order to cope with peak demand loads, and high expectations have long been placed on gas fired power generation. At the same time, calls are increasing for measures to reduce the environmental load. Taiwan has adopted an energy policy that includes abolishing nuclear power by 2025, setting a target for 30% of electricity to be derived from fossil fuels, 50% from GTCC power plants, and 20% from renewables. Needs have also risen for reductions in NOx emissions and greater efficiency from power plants. Under such circumstances, Mitsubishi Power's receipt of the contract for this project reflects a high regard for its low NOx combustor technologies, and high level of performance and reliability based on its record supplying the existing GTCC power plants.Going forward, encouraged by this contract from TPC, Mitsubishi Power will work to provide solutions to meet the needs of the entire Taiwan power industry, including independent power producers (IPPs), for reducing NOx emissions and enhancing performance. Further, by making a concerted effort as a corporate group to successfully complete this project, which is likely to become a touchstone for additional contracts, Mitsubishi Power will contribute to a stable power supply and lower environmental loads for Taiwan.About MHI GroupMitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group is one of the world's leading industrial groups, spanning energy, smart infrastructure, industrial machinery, aerospace and defense. Mitsubishi Corporation: Seven-Member Partnership Commits to Warehouse DX Initiative
TOKYO, Jul 1, 2022 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - We are pleased to announce that a partnership of seven entities has today agreed to undertake a joint initiative to promote digital transformations (DX) in Japan's warehousing industry. The partnership members are Mitsubishi Corporation (MC), Mitsubishi Corporation LT, Inc. (MCLOGI), UTokyo Innovation Platform Co., Ltd. (UTokyo IPC), Prologis, Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd.,* Mitsubishi HC Capital Inc., and Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. Today MC also transferred its own warehouse DX operations to its newly established subsidiary Gaussy Inc. (Gaussy), in which each of the partnership's other six members has acquired a capital interest. The businesses to be undertaken by Gaussy include provision of the warehouse robot subscription service "Roboware," which was launched by MC in 2020, and the warehouse sharing service "WareX." The new subsidiary's aim will be to develop platforms to connect warehouse users and providers in ways that will improve logistics and fulfillment processes across different industries. *Mitsui Fudosan's investment comes via its own venture capital fund, 31 Ventures Global Innovation Fund II. Challenges in the Warehousing Industry Supply chains connecting producers and consumers are made possible through effective combinations of storage- and transportation-based logistics capabilities. Japan's domestic warehousing market is central to those supply chains and worth approximately seven trillion yen; various negative pressures including labor shortages, dependencies on specific individuals for certain jobs and lease agreements have resulted in inflexible inventory capacities, which has in turn contributed to wasteful, inconsistent and burdensome fulfillment practices throughout numerous industries. Other countries, such as the US and China, are facing similar challenges, which has prompted innovators to develop new business models such as self-driving warehouse robots and schemes that allow users to share vacant warehouse spaces. Gaussy's Warehouse DX Services Considering that the "Roboware" subscription service allows anyone, regardless of their background or skills, to use robots to easily manage their warehouse facilities, it presents a viable solution to the labor-shortage and overreliance problems mentioned above. "WareX" is a similarly straightforward system that anyone can use to share available warehouse space, thus addressing the problems of limited or excess capacities. Gaussy will offer customers both of these services, the former (Roboware) of which employs five types of warehouse robots and has already been rolled out in 14 facilities across Japan, and the latter (WareX) of which has more than 1,000 facilities registered on its nationwide system. Large, medium and small enterprises alike have all been taking advantage of "WareX," as it provides them with an efficient way to lease vacant warehouse spaces on a pay-as-you-go basis. Driven by its vision to create new opportunities in logistics, Gaussy is committed to developing flexible mechanisms that will adapt to evolving warehousing needs and cargo volumes. All of its partners look forward to offering fulfillment customers with new and unprecedented options for their businesses.Roboware: https://roboware.ai/WareX: https://warex.ai/ Our Partnership Today, coinciding with MC's transfer of its warehouse DX operations to Gaussy, each of the six other members in our partnership acquired a capital interest in the new company, five through third-party share allotments (UTokyo IPC, Prologis, Mitsui Fudosan, Mitsubishi HC Capital, and Mitsubishi Estate) and one (MCLOGI) through a transfer of Gaussy shares owned by MC. Through this cross-industrial and cross-business partnership between industry and academia, each of our seven entities shall endeavor to create its own solutions to the problems impacting the warehousing sector by bringing to the table its unique assets, including digital technologies, know-how and networks in logistics properties, financial expertise and so on. Partner Comments UTokyo IPCLogistics continues to have an increased impact on business and society, while the logistics industry continues to face various issues, e.g., a surge of just-in-time transport and the labor shortage, to name a few. We are delighted and honored to take part in the cross-sector partnership under which Gaussy, the leading partner with visions and expertise, will address these issues. We look forward to working together for Gaussy's success as well as the acceleration of social transformation through collaboration between multiple stakeholders, including academia. PrologisAs the global leader in logistics real estate, Prologis develops, owns and manages nearly 4,700 logistics facilities in 19 countries around the world. In light of the increasing challenges that our customers are facing, Prologis endeavors to provide solutions beyond the logistics real estate. Through this partnership, we strive to provide further efficiencies by taking advantage of unused warehouse space in addition to providing labor solutions. Moreover, we hope to leverage our global scale to support Gaussy's future global expansion. Mitsui FudosanUnder its Mitsui Fudosan Logistics Park (MFLP) brand, Mitsui Fudosan has been engaged in the logistics property business for roughly a decade since its launch in 2012. This partnership will enable us to promote logistics-oriented DX in ways that should help the industry adapt to an evolving society. As a partner to all of our tenants, we look forward to taking on new roles in value creation that connects goods, labor and services in our properties. Mitsubishi HC CapitalMitsubishi HC Capital has been working on solving issues surrounding the logistics sector such as the workforce shortage, and growing environmental impact, with our partners, to create sustainable societies and improve people's quality of life. Mitsubishi HC Capital intends to leverage this partnership to offer Gaussy a set of diverse functions built up through many years of experience, which include both financing and ownership and management of asset. By doing so, we aim to be a valued partner in the new company's aim to meet customer needs with efficient and user-friendly services. Mitsubishi EstateMitsubishi Estate has been working on its own brand of logistics facilities developments called Logicross, which services customers across a wide array of businesses. We are keen to partake in this partnership, not only to construct the facilities, but also to enhance our services' customer-satisfaction rates and work in step with the other members to help identify new logistics solutions. MCLOGIAs a logistics-solutions provider, MCLOGI's business is to optimize its customers' storage-and-distribution operations. This partnership allows us to extend the full breadth of our logistics know-how and planning-and-design functions to Gaussy, which should raise its corporate value and help to develop the solutions needed to enrich society and stimulate economic growth. MCHere at MC, we are proud to have forged value chains in many different industries. In recent years, we have also been pursuing DX projects designed to help address challenges in warehousing, as that sector will be key to enhancing the sustainability of those value chains. Societal challenges cannot be met by one entity acting alone, but the partnership we have entered into today will make those solutions possible and help us to co-create expansive value. This value will also have the potential to boost Gaussy's corporate value, and ultimately help to realize a more affluent and prosperous society. MC and Maruha Nichiro Agree to Establish New Joint Venture in Salmon (land-based)
TOKYO, Jun 30, 2022 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) and Maruha Nichiro Corporation (Maruha Nichiro) are pleased to announce our agreement to establish a new joint venture company, ATLAND Corporation (ATLAND), that will specialize in the land-based production of salmon. ATLAND will be established in Nyuzen town of Toyama prefecture in around October 2022.1 The investment ratio of ATLAND will be MC 51% and Maruha Nichiro 49%. Following the establishment of the company, a land-based aquaculture facility with a capacity of 2,500 tons (live weight equivalent) will be constructed in Nyuzen town, with the aims of starting operations in 2025 and completing the first delivery in 2027. MC and Maruha Nichiro have been discussing the joint promotion of this project since March 2021. This project is expected to help develop a sustainable and stable land-based production system, efficient digital-tech-based operations, local production for local consumption, and progress in decarbonization. Our companies are both dedicated to leveraging our strengths and businesses to simultaneously generate economic, environmental and societal value. Local Production for Local Consumption of SalmonThere are few suitable locations for conventional salmon aquaculture, due to the need for year-round low seawater temperatures, mild weather and wave activity. For those reasons, the vast majority of the world's farmed salmon is produced in Norway and Chile, but expectations are that global demand for this high-quality animal protein will continue to grow in the future. The aim of our joint project is to create a local-production-for-local-consumption business model in Japan's salmon industry. Low-Carbon, Carbon-Free / DigitalizationThis business model is expected to produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to the practice of importing fresh salmon to Japan by air from salmon-farming countries. In addition, land-based aquaculture that uses Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS)2 is highly compatible with digital technologies. These systems use advanced water-treatment technologies to control and manage the farming environment. By employing these methods, we aim to take advantage of AI and IoT to stabilize production, and otherwise optimize our own salmon farming operations. Water Resources in Nyuzen TownATLAND's facility uses ground water originating from the Kurobe River and deep seawater3 from the Toyama bay. Deep seawater is characterized by its cleanliness and low, stable temperature, which makes it possible to operate the facility by reducing the amount of energy required to create a water environment suitable for land-based production. 1. Completion of this project is subject to the approval of the relevant regulatory authorities.2. This model of land-based salmon aquaculture involves using special technologies to circulate water in and out of tanks where the fish are raised. The water is treated, removed of waste, and cleaned before it is pumped back into the tanks. This creates a controlled environment that supports health and welfare of the salmon throughout the growth cycle.3. In Toyama prefecture, a large amount of low-temperature "Japan Sea Proper Water" exists at depths of 300m or more. Copyright 2022 JCN Newswire. All rights reserved. (via SEAPRWire)

Milestone of THz Communication
TOKYO, Jun 29, 2022 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - Scientists from a project coordinated by Technische Universitat Braunschweig in Germany and Waseda University in Japan with ten other partners from five countries have succeeded for the first time worldwide in developing a bidirectional THz radio link that can be connected as a "backhaul" to the data network of mobile radio providers. This link achieved by the Horizon Europe-funded new windowThoR project, can realise high data rates and thus play an important role in the network infrastructure of the future. On 29 and 30 June, the THz radio link will be presented in a final workshop of the ThoR project. The Braunschweig radio relay link connects the Oker Tower with TU Braunschweig's IT Centre over a distance of 160 metres. Credits: Thomas Kürner/ TU BraunschweigFibre-optic cables are not always the best option when it comes to transmitting data. Especially in cities, it is often not possible to connect every base station of the mobile network by cable. Radio relay links provide an alternative solution. With the help of antennas mounted on roofs, they can bridge distances of up to one kilometre. This creates important backhaul connections between mobile radio cells and the nodes of the mobile radio network without the need for any road construction work. Until now, the high data rates produced by the 5G mobile communications standard, which will continue to increase in the future 6G standard, favoured a fibre-optic connection between stations to the data networks. The international ThoR project has now succeeded in developing a bidirectional terahertz radio link that can reliably transmit these high data volumes. The frequency range above 300 gigahertz is used for this as it offers enough spectrum for high data rates. The ThoR-backhaul link is the only one of its kind in the world to offer a bidirectional real data connection and connects TU Braunschweig's IT centre with the Oker high-rise building over a distance of 160 metres. It can transmit data rates of 2x20 Gbit/s net at a bandwidth of 2x8.64 GHz and is scalable over the bandwidth so that higher data rates can also be realised. Professor Thomas Kurner, coordinator of the European part of the project: "We have realised an application-oriented complete solution here, which can already be used as a backhaul link in the data network in the near future." In addition, as the first backhaul link of its kind, its functionality also complies with the IEEE 802.15.3 standard. The IEEE 802.15.3 standard was already developed in the run-up to the ThoR project and substantial research contributions were made by TU Braunschweig and several of the Japan-based partners. On 29 and 30 June, the final workshop of the ThoR project will take place in hybrid form. In addition to attending the workshop in person in the Aula of the Haus der Wissenschaft (Pockelstrabetae 11, 38106 Braunschweig), it will also be possible to participate online. The core of the workshop is the demonstration of the backhaul track with a tour of the developed THz hardware. Registration for the workshop is possible new windowonline. The ThoR project is funded by the EU through the Horizon 2020 research framework programme (Grant Agreement 814523) and by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology in Japan with a total of three million euros. The project started on 1 July 2018 and will end on 30 June 2022. Partners of the ThoR project:TU Braunschweig (EU coordinator, Germany), Waseda University (Japanese coordinator, Japan), Chiba Institute of Technology (Japan), Gifu University (Japan), University of Stuttgart (Germany), Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics IAF (Germany), University of Lille-CNRS IEMN&PhLAM Laboratories (France), HRCP R&D Partnership (Japan), Vivid Components Ltd (UK), Siklu Communication Ltd (Israel), NEC Corporation (Japan) and Deutsche Telekom (Germany/Czech Republic). Hitachi High-Tech provides a wide range of user-friendly AFM devices and has been constantly improving the reliability of these devices by simplifying the AFM measurement process and preventing data variances caused by the operator. Background of developing the AFM100 ProIn recent years, the development of advanced functional materials has been focusing on nanoscale engineering, to facilitate the development of carbon neutrality, digital transformation (DX) involving AI and IoT, EVs, 5G, and power devices. As new functional materials are getting smaller, thinner, and more organic, there has been an increased demand to improve sensitivity when measuring microscopic changes and minor variations in the physical properties of material surfaces.AFM100 Pro FeaturesTo face these challenges, the AFM100 Pro developed by Hitachi High-Tech is equipped with a newly developed high-sensitivity optical head that uses photothermal excitation to achieve improved sensitivity when measuring physical properties and measurement at the atomic and molecular scales. The main features of this product are as follows:1. High-sensitivity optical head improves sensitivity when measuring physical propertiesThe newly developed high-sensitivity optical head reduces the noise level for cantilever displacement detection and optimizes detection sensitivity. In addition, the photothermal excitation function (IR-Drive), which excites the cantilever using light, enables a stable control of the cantilever oscillation amplitude in the sub-nm order. This enables high-resolution measurement when observing in liquids.2. Advanced correlation analysis with high-sensitivity measurement of physical properties and SEM observation at the same locationThe high-sensitivity optical head with a significantly reduced noise level enables the detection of subtle differences in physical property, which could not be observed using conventional optical heads due to relatively higher noises. The optional AFM Marking function makes it easy to observe the same location as the SEM(4), contributing significantly to identifying the factors behind the subtle differences in physical property information.3. Scalable and durableThe standard AFM100 model and the AFM100 Plus can both be upgraded to the AFM100 Pro. For example, you can start with the budget friendly AFM100, then upgrade to the AFM100 Pro later if you need a higher level of analysis. In addition, a self-checking function is included as standard, to ensure the reliability of the equipment for a long time.Hitachi High-Tech will continue to provide innovative solutions like this product in a timely manner, while working on Observation, Measurement and Analysis to solve social issues together with our customers, as well as contributing to cutting-edge manufacturing.(1) AFM: Atomic Force Microscope(2) SPM: Scanning Probe Microscope(3) Nanometers: One nanometer = one millionth of a millimeter(4) SEM: Scanning Electron MicroscopeAbout Hitachi High-TechHitachi High-Tech, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, is engaged in activities in a broad range of fields, including manufacture and sales of clinical analyzers, biotechnology products, and analytical instruments, semiconductor manufacturing equipment and analysis equipment. and providing high value-added solutions in fields of social & industrial infrastructures and mobility, etc. The company's consolidated revenues for FY 2021 were approx. TOKYO, Jun 28, 2022 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - Fujitsu today released its "Fujitsu Future Insights Global Sustainability Transformation Survey Report 2022," highlighting the results of a survey of 1,800 business executives and decision makers in 9 countries conducted by Forrester Consulting with the aim of understanding global trends and current conditions in sustainability transformation(1)(SX). Figure 1. Stage of progress in SX initiatives: breakdown by share of companiesFigure 2. Graph of four elementsFigure 3. Graph of DX contribution in SXThis sixth survey investigated the current status of SX and how digital transformation (DX) contributes to the changes required to improve society's sustainability. Fujitsu will draw on the insights and knowledge gained from this survey to work with its customers to resolve issues towards the realization of a sustainable future for business and society.Global Sustainability Transformation Survey Report 2022Sustainability: a growing management challenge for business leaders globallySustainability that takes into account environmental, societal, and economic impacts represents an urgent priority for individuals, companies, and governments around the world. Companies, in particular, need to prioritize sustainability not only with regard to the differentiation of their business, but also for the survival of the company. To this end, Fujitsu commissioned Forrester Consulting to conduct a survey to clarify the actual state of range of companies' SX initiatives, and will now issue the results in the Fujitsu Future Insights Global Sustainability Transformation Survey Report.Key findings:1. Sustainability as a management priority41% of respondents place sustainability among the top three management priorities, which demonstrates that the importance of sustainability has risen sharply in business strategy and decision-making over the past two years. The main reasons for this trend were rising awareness of sustainability among the younger generation (54%), government regulations and guidelines, and requests from consumer groups (49%).2. Only 5% of companies are SX leadersThe survey revealed that 21% of the companies have already delivered results from SX initiatives. However, only 5% of the leaders have developed a vision for SX initiatives and a company-wide SX strategy and achieved significant results through comprehensive measures. In contrast, 54% of the respondents responded that they were unable to develop or implement a corporate sustainability strategy.3. Digital-first approach as key to SXThe survey showed that SX leaders have a high degree of maturity in four elements: purpose-driven, human-centric, data-driven, and connected, suggesting that these four elements may be important success factors for achieving success in sustainability initiatives. In addition, 67% of the respondents agreed that DX would contribute to the success of SX, and the survey results also revealed a strong correlation between SX maturity and DX maturity. This demonstrates that a digital-first approach is a critical factor in promoting SX.4. SX: Challenges and ways to solve themIn the survey, 38% of respondents cited a lack of executive alignment in sustainability vision and implementation, and 35% internal resistance and skepticism about sustainability initiatives as key issues in implementing sustainability initiatives. The survey further demonstrated that improving both the financial value including sales and profits and the non-financial value including creation of environmental and social value represent a major challenge. CEOs can address this issue by providing purpose-driven leadership, developing plans that include financial and non-financial goals, and leveraging digital technology with technology partners.Fujitsu is promoting management and business operations based on its new global business brand, Fujitsu Uvance, which aims to contribute to the achievement of Fujitsu's purpose: "to make the world more sustainable by building trust in society through innovation."The findings of this survey will help Fujitsu to continue to serve as customers' SX partner, simultaneously helping customers to succeed in business and to provide value to society.Survey overview1. GR YARIS Rally1 wins African epic with incredible 1-2-3-4 finish
TOKYO, Jun 27, 2022 - (JCN Newswire via SEAPRWire.com) - TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has claimed a historic result at the legendary Safari Rally Kenya with Kalle Rovanpera leading a remarkable clean sweep of the top four positions for the GR YARIS Rally1 car. Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta joined him on the podium with Sebastien Ogier in fourth.PodiumIt is also a landmark 10th victory for Toyota on the famous African event, and the first time it has achieved a 1-2-3-4 finish in the WRC since the very same rally in 1993. Only once has any other manufacturer achieved the same feat in the championship in nearly three decades since. In its second running since returning to the WRC calendar last year, the Safari delivered even tougher conditions, including deep 'fesh-fesh' sand on Friday and wet and muddy surfaces on Saturday in addition to the ever-present rocks and stones. It was by far the hardest challenge yet for the new generation of hybrid-powered Rally1 cars, but the GR YARIS survived everything that the Kenyan terrain could throw at it to remain reliable and dominate the weekend without any major issues. The next best-placed car finished eight-and-a-half minutes adrift of the Toyota quartet.Rovanpera had an early scare when he ran wide on the very first corner on Thursday's opening super special in Nairobi and knocked a tyre off its rim. But he and co-driver Jonne Halttunen ran faultlessly thereafter on the way to their fourth victory in five rounds, increasing their championship lead to 65 points.Evans and his co-driver Scott Martin also performed superbly and ran their team-mates close for the victory, remaining within 20 seconds of the lead until the rain hit on Saturday afternoon. They finished up 52.8s away as they scored their second podium of the season.TGR WRC Challenge Program driver Katsuta once more drove an excellent and smart rally in the demanding conditions of Kenya to claim his second career podium, one year on from taking his first at the very same event. It's also a maiden podium for his co-driver Aaron Johnston, the pair entered under the TGR World Rally Team Next Generation banner.Ogier, the 2021 event winner, led for most of Friday in the defence of his crown until he had to stop and change a tyre on the day's final stage, losing over two minutes. He and co-driver Benjamin Veillas fought back to fourth overall and, with their team-mates focused on reaching their finish, set the third-fastest time in the rally-ending Power Stage to add to the team's points haul from the weekend. Its manufacturers' championship lead has increased to 62 points.Quotes:Akio Toyoda (Team Founder)"Kalle, Jonne, congratulations!Elfyn, Takamoto, Seb, thank you for making the wonderful result!Aaron, congratulations on your first podium!TGR's first ever 1-2-3-4 finish was achieved thanks to our crews who brought the cars back safely on such tough roads in Kenya. This event reminded us how important it is to drive through the rally without trouble. Not only the crews, but I also appreciate the team's support behind it.Not staying disappointed by the result in Sardinia, the team did a great job to prepare for Kenya in a short space of time. I heard some parts were even completed only after arriving in Kenya. Mechanics and engineers kept discussing between services and did not stop making improvements for the rough surfaces. I'm proud that the team is implementing ever-better car making through the rallies taking place on real roads.Kalle went wide and his car got damaged on the first day. Many were worried but his mechanics were very confident with a smile and they managed to fix it back in 15 minutes. Of course Kalle's driving is amazing to win the rally from this position, but the mechanics' skills and confidence are great as well.I'm most pleased to feel that this wonderful achievement is the result of the team's strength that we have built up over the years. We cannot forget that the fans' support is also helping the team a lot. I appreciate your continuous support for the second half of the 2022 season.P.S.Thank you to those from Toyota Kenya who came to cheer for the team. Thanks to your warm welcome and support, we were able to enjoy this rally as another home event!"Jari-Matti Latvala (Team Principal)"To achieve a 1-2-3-4 here at the Safari Rally is an exceptional result. It's nearly 30 years since Toyota managed the same feat here in Kenya with the Celica and I can only thank our team and our drivers for the superb job they have done. When we were developing the GR YARIS Rally1 we focused above all on making a really strong and reliable car. This was really the most important thing on this event and the car has worked really well in such difficult conditions. Our drivers have also driven this rally exactly the way it needs to be driven, which is in a very smart way, and it was great to see them all thinking about the result for the team rather than their own personal ambitions."Sebastien Ogier (Driver car 1)"It has been a really strong weekend. I was only missing a bit of luck but that's part of the game. Most of all, I'm happy to be a part of this amazing result for the team and I want to congratulate everybody at TOYOTA GAZOO Racing because it's been a great effort to provide all four of us drivers with such a strong car for three full days on the toughest rally of the season. This rally was a tough challenge up to the end so the whole team deserves a big round of applause, and also my team-mates because they drove very well this weekend."Elfyn Evans (Driver car 33)"It's been a really nice weekend. Of course we really wanted to fight for the win, but that slipped away from us on Saturday with one thing or another, and today was about securing this 1-2-3-4 for TOYOTA GAZOO Racing which is obviously a fantastic result to be a part of. It was a tough fight to get through this extreme terrain here in Kenya and while everybody else has struggled, our cars have really come through it so a big well done to the team."Kalle Rovanpera (Driver car 69)"This is a result that I don't think we could have even imagined before the event. To have a top four that is all Toyota is something amazing and such a great result for the team. It was the hardest rally I've ever done, so to have all four cars at the finish with no big issues, it's clearly the strongest and fastest car. For myself to get the win here like this in such a special rally is really nice. Thank you to the team, everybody did a great job. They are developing the car all the time which is important and that's helping us to put some good results together."For the latest results please visit www.wrc.com.What's next?Rally Estonia (July 14-17) takes place over fast and smooth gravel roads with many crests and jumps, as well as some more technical sections.
